Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a compression ratio and reduce a fuel consumption throughout all the operating zone of the engine by a method wherein the primary side carburettor of a twin-caburettor is used for supplying gasoline while the secondary side carburettor thereof is used for supplying alcohol and alcohol is supplied in addition to the gasoline in the middle and high operating zone of the engine. CONSTITUTION:The carburettor 3 comprises the primary side and the secondary side carburettors 4, 5, which are independent each other, and gasoline is supplied to the primary side carburettor 4 while alcohol is supplied to the secondary side carburettor 5. A throttle valve 23 for the secondary carburettor 5 is cooperating with the throttle valve 16 for the primary side carburettor 4 in such a manner that the throttle valve 23 is opened after the throttle valve 16 is opened fully or almost fully. The ratio of alcohol to gasoline is increased upon the high load operation, therefore, knocking may be controlled effectively and the deterioration of starting and accelerating properties may be prevented, which, in turn, may contribute to the improvement of the compression ratio.
