Abstract

PURPOSE:To restrain the thermal deformation of a sleeve upon operation of the engine by a method wherein ribs are provided on the side wall of the sleeve forming a scavenging passage for the cylinder equipped with the sleeve. CONSTITUTION:The rib 14 connecting the side wall 13a of the sleeve forming the third scavenging passage 13 and the wall 13b opposing thereto is provided in the third scavenging passage 13 of a cylinder body 10. According to this construction, the sleeve side wall 13a, having a thin thickness, is improved in the rigidity thereof by the opposing wall 13b and the rib 14. Accordingly, a strain force, acting from the sleeve side wall 13a to the part between the suction port 21 and the third scavenging port 25 of the sleeve 20 upon cooling after casing, is equalized substantially with the strain force acting on the other part of the sleeve 20 and whereby the thermal deformation of the sleeve 20 produced upon operation of the engine may be restrained and the seizing of the cylinder may be prevented.
