Abstract
PURPOSE: To form on an object an electroplated coating with arbitrary patterns around the sections where electric current is applied, by positioning the object and a plate eletrode having an ununiform electrical resistance distribution in an electro coating paint in such a way that they are adjacent to each other, and applying an electric current across the object and the plate electrode.
CONSTITUTION: The object 3 of electrically conductive material and the plate electrode 4 having an ununiform electrical resistance distribution that comprises a print base 4a having a patterned electrode 7 and covered with an insulating silk cloth 4b are put in the electro coating paint liquid 2 in such a way that they are opposed and adjacent to each other. With the plate electrode 4 and the object 3 contacted firmly by a weight 5, a direct current is applied across the electrode 4 and the object 3 to perform the electro coating treatment. In this case, the paint particles dispersed in water are attracted to the surface of the object 3 by electrophoresis and aggregated and collected there electrically. Further, the moisture in the paint is reduced by electrophoresis, and an electro coating film insoluble in water is formed around the sections which are adjacent to the plate electrode 4 and the patterned electrode 7 and where the electric current has been passed.
