Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cast steel member having characteristics equal to or more than that of a tempered and annealed member only by annealing after casting, in an electroslag casting method using steel as stock material, by forming a structure based on prismatic crystal developed from the outside of said member toward inside direction.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a material corresponding to JIS, SCSI having a chemical composition shown by a table is used and a guide vane is prepared by an electroslag process casting apparatus consisting of an ingot 1, a movable and a fixed water cooled casting molds 2, 3 and an electrode. When current is supplied to this apparatus, the electrode 5 is melted by Joule heat generated in a slag 4 and the molten substance is fallen into the slag 4 in a liquid droplet form and reaches the ingot 1 to be rapidly cooled and solidified as well as to be formed into prismatic crystal in the ingot 1. Because the prismatic structure of this member is grown at an extremely high cooling speed as described above, the member itself comes to an annealed condition as a whole and it is unnecessary to anneal the same again.
