Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an iodine storage battery with improved workability and strength by using a special high polymer compound with affinity between itself and iodine as the electropositive side electrode substance and metallic iodide as the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A storage battery which uses a high polymer compound such as poly (2.5-Thienylene) that has a monomer unit with aromatic radical, heterocyclic radical, or hydroxyl group as one of main constituent elements and affinity between itself and iodine as the positive electrode, a metal as the negative electrode and aqueous solution such as stannic iodide as the electrolyte is fabricated. When this storage battery is charged, by applying direct current voltage, the positive electrode educes iodine and forms a complex together with the high polymer compound and the negative electrode educes the metal. Then, by disconnecting direct current voltage and connecting both electrodes using a lead wire, discharge occurs and power can be obtained.
