Abstract

Compsn. suitable for prodn. of an electrode which is both ionically and, pref. electronically conductive comprises the agglomeration prod. of (1) a composite mass of electrode material partic. its active material and, opt. >=1 inert cpd. pref. having electronic conduction and (2) a solid soln. of an ionic cpd. which is completely dissolved in a plastics macromolecular material (I). The ionic material has formula M+X- where Mis an alkali metal or NH4 and X- is a strong acid anion. (I) comprises (partly) homo and/or copolymers having noncrosslinked chains derived from monomers having a heteroatom, pref. O or N, which can form donor-acceptor bonds with M+. Used in prodn. of electrochemical generators which are rechargeable and operable at 100, esp. 60 degrees C with all the components remaining solid during operation. Modifications of volume can be more easily compensated and risks of contact break between electrodes and electrolyte more reduced than in known generators. Generator is used e.g. in the microelectronic industry such as batteries for pacemakers and in power plants for energy storage in peak hours.
