PURPOSE:To contrive to effectively utilize media and to improve the quality of workpiece polished by a method wherein the state of the media circulating within a barrel tank is automatically checked by detecting the fluctuation of the load current of a motor driving the rotating bottom part of the barrel tank. CONSTITUTION:A load current signal SL of a DC motor 16, which is obtained by a load detecting unit 44 arranged in the supply passage of a driving power SP from a motor driving circuit 42 for driving the rotating bottom part 6 of the barrel tank 8, is supplied to an arithmetic control unit 46. On the other hand, a reference signal SS memorized in advance in a memory 48 is supplied to the arithmetic control unit 46. The state of the media in the barrel tank 8 is judged by the operation of the arithmetic control unit 46 on the basis of the signals SS and SL. When the state of the media deviates from the predetermined good state of the media, the unit 46 issues the output as media information telling the deviation of the state of the media. At this time, for example, a feed signal SF is supplied from the arithmetic control unit 46 to a solenoid driving unit 51 in order to replenish the shortage amount of the media.
