CONSTITUTION:A CPU8 inputs signals of a suction pressure 2, a rotation sensor 3, etc., and reads out values of a setting mapthetap, a MBT mapthetam and a knock mapthetak. These values are stored in a memory respectively the way as follows -thetap: Normal ignition timing to be set by suction pressure, thetam: Difference between MBT characteristic line and thetap, and thetak: Difference between knock limitation characteristic line and thetap as their individual contents. And, a smaller value between thetap+thetam and thetap+thetak in comparison is considered to be an actual ignition timing thetaig whereby maximum torque within the range of steady driving can be obtained. At this time, if knocking happens, it calculates an equation of DELTAthetak=thetak-thetaig, evaluating an estimation factor alphak, and then an equation of thetak+ thetak+alphakX constant thetafk is regarded as a new thetak. In addition, DELTAthetam is found with a MBT signal generated, the estimation factor alpham is calculated and thetam is substituted as well.
