Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled alloy with superior magnetic characteristics by using an ingot consisting of Sm, Co, Cu, Fe and Nb, based on Sm2Co17 crystals contg. a specified amount of Sm, and having a columnar structure as the macrostructure.
CONSTITUTION: A magnet is obtd. using an Sm-Co-Cu-Fe-Nb 5-component alloy based on Sm2Co17 crystals contg. 21W28wt.% Sm and having a columnar structure as the macrostructure of an ingot. The 5-component alloy is melted with a high- frequency melting furnace or the like and cast in a metallic mold to form an ingot. An ingot having a columnar structure is cut out of the ingot and subjected to soln. heat treatment, aging and magnetic hardening. The treated ingot is then pulverized, and the resulting powder is kneaded with an org. binder, press-molded in a magnetic field, and hardened by heating.
