Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the yield and efficiency of rolling and quality in a process for rolling H-steel directly from a continuously cast slab by force opening the slits formed by the broadside roughing of the slab with universal mills. CONSTITUTION:A flat slab obtained by continuous casting is heated and roughly rolled by box calibersI, II... having crest parts 1 of a prescribed height (h) and a vertex theta wherein the theta is approximately the same and the (h) increases gradually with duplex type reversible roughing mills by placing the width direction of the slab on top and bottom. The depth S of the slits to be formed to the slab is set approximately half the flange width H of the product. Such rough shape steel is guided to >=1 set of intermediate UR mill groups consisting of universal (UR) mills and duplex type caliber edging (E) mills, where it is subjected plural passes of forward and backward rollings. The horizotal and vertical rolls of the UR mills have >=5 deg. angles phi and the web arts of the slabs are opened by the former and the slits are force opened by the latter. After the inner sides of the flange parts of the slab contact with the side surfaces of the horizontal rolls, the leading ends of the flange parts are edged by the E mills and the slab is rolled for one pass with the UR mills.
