Abstract
PURPOSE:To electrolyze water at a low voltage so as to produce hydrogen over a long period in a stable manner, by sticking onto an ion exchange film surface a gas-liquid-permeable electrode that comprises a firmly attached collector of a porous metal having a number of fine pores. CONSTITUTION:The gas-liquid-permeable anode and cathode used in this method have an average pore diameter on the order of 0.01-1,000mu and a porocity on the order of 20-90%. The collector for supplying an electric current from an electric source to the electrode is made of a porous metal having an average pore diameter on the order of 1mu-10mm., and a porocity on the order of 20-98%. This collector is firmly attached, and said gas-liquid-permeable electrodes are sticked onto the cation exchange film, and an electric current is applied across the electrodes to electrolyze water.
