Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce high-quality sintered ore at a low cost, while improving the resistance of the sintered ore to reducing pulverization, by properly controlling the particle size distribution of lime stone to be added to powdery iron ore.
CONSTITUTION: When powdery iron ore is sintered in a downward-inhaled sintering machine, the particle size of lime stone in a compounding material to be charged to a palette or pan is conditioned into the state that a part of 1W 3mm is at 50% or more, while a part of 3W5mm and a fine-grained part of -0.25mm are inevitably below 10% and 19%, respectively. The particle size of the lime stone at only upper and lower layers in the palette or pan may be controlled. A temperature level as a whole is lowered by lowering a sintering temperature along the width and thickness of the lime stone layer with a uniform rate. Consequently, needle-shaped calcium ferrite and dapple hematite are formed in a proper temperature range. According to this method, the reducing pulverization index of the sintered ore is stabilized at a low level, and reaction efficiency at a reducing zone in a blast furnace is enhanced.
