Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent surface defection of an ingot even in an unstationary state wherein casting is unstable by peheating mold powder and then by supplying it in the preheated state to a mold for continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:In the case of continuously casting molten steel, in the initial period of casting or at the times f exchanging a tundish, exchanging with the steel of different type and starting to cast the continuous casting speed decreases and the temperature of molten steel drops to make the casting operation unstable. Under such unstable conditions, the mold flux is preheated within a range of maintaining the chemical composition and immediately is supplied to a mold to start casting. The above-mentioned manner of continuous casting maintains the fusibility of molten powder and assures higher quality of continuous ingots excellent in the surface characteristic.
