Abstract

PURPOSE:To regulate a contact pressure of a drag head to a ground and to enhance ratio of earth and sand in sucked mud, by a method wherein a contact pressure regulating tank is installed to a drag head of a dredger, and ballast water in the tank is adjusted. CONSTITUTION:A drag arm is pivotably mounted to a hopper dredger through an universal joint, and a drag head 4 is rotatably secured to the forward end thereof. A contact pressure 8 is located to a rotary part 4b of the drag head 4, a port 9 for implanting and draining liquid and an air vent hole 10 are bored in the tank 8, a fixed pipe 11 and a flexible pipe hose 12, which implant and drain liquid, are installed to the implanting and drainage port 9, and the air vent hole 10 is covered with a blind plug 13. In case a dredging is made on a hard ground, ballast water is implanted into the tank 8 to increase a contact pressure, and in the case of a soft ground, ballast water is drained to reduce the contact pressure through action of buoyancy.
