Abstract
PURPOSE:To both reduce pumping loss of an idle side cylinder and prevent contamination of an intake device, by introducing fresh air to an operating side cylinder through the idle side cylinder at partial cylinder operation. CONSTITUTION:Operating side cylinders #1-#3 and idle side cylinders #4-#6 are provided. At high load operation of an engine, a shutoff valve 5 and reverse flow preventive valve 21 are fully opened and an air control valve 29 is fully closed to perform all cylinder operation. In a range of low load operation, the shutoff valve 5 and the reverse flow preventive valve 21 are fully closed and the air control valve 29 is fully opened. As a result, fresh air passing through a throttle valve 2 is sucked from an idle side intake passage 4 to the cylinders #4-#6 and discharged to an idle side exhaust passage 8. At this time, as the reverse flow preventive valve 21 is closed, the discharged air passes through an air introducing passage 33 and is sucked to an operating side intake passage 3. In this way, pumping loss can be reduced simultaneously contamination of an intake device can be prevented.
