Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce power loss and obtain a smaller-sized and more effective unit by turning on and off a d-c power source in the previous stage of transformer, thus basically completing a row of voltage pulses for electrical discharge machining and making a switching element smaller together with facilitating its control. CONSTITUTION:An A-C power 3 is rectified and made into direct current by a rectifier 4. Switching elements 7 through 10 are controlled by a control circuit 11 so as to produce bypolar pulses of high frequency and enters a transformer 17. A plurality of high frequency unit pulses assemble and form into working pulses, while a reset period is provided between those working pulses. The output of the transformer 17 is all rectified, and formed into unipolar working pulses which are applied to an electrode 1 and a work piece 2. As described the above, the direct current is made into a high frequency unit pulse and then is transformed. Therefore, power loss is reduced. The unit pulse also makes it possible to finish a work piece with low consumption of power.
