Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to form a coated film free from skims, pin holes or outstanding sink marks, by coating FRP articles with an electrically conductive primer or preheating said articles and then applying powder coating thereon.
CONSTITUTION: Molded FRP articles (e.g., those obtained by preforming a blend of unsaturated polyester resin etc. with glass fiber, carbon fiber and various additives into a sheetlike or block-shaped form, and then molding it into a desired shape) are coated with an electrically conductive primer or preheated, and then coated with powder coating (e.g., epoxy resin powder coat) and baked. By this process no skims, pin holes or sink marks of the FRP products are not observed. By incorporating an electrically conductive substance such as carbon black in the powder coat, top coat can be readily applied by electrostatic coating.
