PURPOSE: To obtain a monoclinic system compound represented by 4MnO. 6Fe2O3.9GeO2 (Mn4Fe12Ge9O40) by mixing MnO with Fe2O3 and GeO2 in a specified atomic ratio and heating the mixture at a proper temp. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: MnO is mixed with Fe2O3 and GeO2 in about 4:6:9 molar ratio. This mixture is heated at ≥700°C in a nonoxidizing atmopshere for a prescribed time and rapidly cooled to room temp. By this method a monoclinic system black compound represented by 4MnO.6Fe2O3.9GeO2 (Mn4Fe12Ge9O40) is obtd. This compound is useful as a magnetic material, a semiconductor material and a catalyst.
