Abstract

PURPOSE: To do nitrification and denitrification at once without use of a chemical fluid, by feeding a high-BOD material, to be purified, and a part of circulating purified water from a reaction vessel to water, to be purified, on the middle of its flow inside the reaction vessel.
CONSTITUTION: Water, to be purified, e.g. sewage sludge, is fed to the horizontal end side of a reaction vessel 1 and fluidized toward the other end side under the condition that oxygen-contng. gas is supplied through an air-feed tool 3 connected to a blower 2, so that nitrification of ammoniac nitrogen and reducing denitrification of nitrous and nitric nitrogens are done at once by the action of active sludge. The major part of the purified water from the reaction vessel 1 is returned to the fluidization-initiating end side of the reaction vessel 1 and cyclincally fluidized in the reaction vessel 1, so that the water is subjected to reducing denitrification while a part of the water is returned. A part of separated sludge in a precipitating vessel 4 is returned to the reaction vessel 1, and the remainder is fed to a means 5 for post-treatment, e.g. thickening, dewatering and drying, and treated in the means 5.
