Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode substrate for homeotropic orientation of high heat resistance which is treated only in the desired places and is treated without contaminating the other surfaces by providing a fluoroalkyl silicone-contg. high polymer film on the electrode-coated surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer film prepd. by mixing fluorosilicone of high heat resistance (e.g.; the 4D silane of the formula I, the 8D silane of the formula II, etc.) as an orienting agent with a soln. of a high polymer having superior film formability (e.g.; polyimide, polyamide, etc.) is formed on the surface having an electrode film of a substrate provided with said film, whereby the electrode substrate of high versatility giving homeotropic orientation to all kinds of liquid crystals is obtained through the use of a treating agent of high heat resistance which treats only the desired places and does not contaminate the other surfaces.
