Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture high temperature ingots having no inner cracking and less segregation, by providing noncontact type thickness meters in ≥2 positions at the upstream side of reforming point and controlling the plate thickness by the outputs of the thickness meters so that the difference between the actual thickness and prescribed thickness is minimized, in a curved type continuous casting process.
CONSTITUTION: A plural number of noncontact type thickness meters 5a, 5b are provided at the upstream side of a reforming point 4 for an ingot 3 to be bended by bending rolls 2a, 2b and 2c, and solidified thickness control is performed, respectively, by each output. In response to the difference between the actual thickness and prescribed thickness at the position of noncontact type thickness meter 5a, for example, the cooling capacity of cooling nozzle 6a provided at the upstream of thickness meter 5a is controlled or the casting speed is changed, or both means are adopted. The noncontact type thickness meter 5b provided at the downstream side executes similar operations. When the casting speed is changed by the output of one side thickness meter, no change in the casting speed is made by the output of another thickness meter.
