Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the life of the titled roll, and to improve the shape control performance of rolling mills by making the diameter in the cylindrical end parts of moving rolls gradually smaller with specific rates of change toward their ends thereby reducing the stresses concentrated by the cylindrical end parts of the moving rolls.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of intermediate rolls 11, 12 contacting work rolls 2, 3 are so formed that the cylindrical end parts on mutually opposite sides are convergent. These small diameter parts are so set that the rate of change in the small diameter is ≥0.3mm in radius from the root point of the cylindrical end parts toward the leading ends within 100mm. If the root point of the cylindrical end parts of the intermediate rolls is set in a prescribed position, good shape controlling is accomplished in spite of a fluctuation of the boundary points of the contact and noncontact parts between the moving rolls and the adjacent rolls according to the action of rolling load. In addition, stress concentration is eased, and spalling and flawing of rolls are prevented.
