Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of pharmaceuticals, etc., easily, lowering the action of catalyst poison, by the hydrocracking of a disulfide compound in an aqueous solvent under hydrogen pressure keeping a specific pH level in the presence of an industrially advantageous, low-cost Raney-nickel catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A thiophenol compound (e.g. thiophenol, thiosalicylic acid, etc.) is prepared by the hydrocracking of a disulfide compound. The reaction is carried out under hydrogen pressure (the pressure is maintained by continuously feeding hydrogen of 1W200kg/cm2, preferably 5W50kg/cm2 pressure), in the presence of a Raney-nickel catalyst, in an aqueous solvent, keeping the pH at ≥8, preferably 9W13.5 by using an alkali such as NaOH, KOH, etc. The poisoning activity of the product to the catalyst can be decreased and the reaction is proceeded smoothly by keeping the reaction liquid to the above alkaline pH level.
