Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a superelastic spring having a shape memory effect of desired shapes by forming a shape memory alloy to a prescribed shape in a temp. region above the MS point and below the Md point, heating this to temp. above the Md point while restraining the same in this shape and cooling it to temp. below the Md point.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of producing a coil spring, a blank material (a) of a shape memory alloy is wound along the spiral groove 2 formed on the outside circumference of a core metal 1 in a temp. region above the MS point of the shape memory alloy and below the Md point and both end parts thereof are fixed by means of fixing fittings 3. While the coil spring (b) formed in this way is held restrained by the metal 1 and the fittings 3, it is held for 15W30min at temp. above the Md point. Thence, it is cooled as quickly as possible down to temp. below the Md point and above the Ma point.
