PURPOSE:To eliminate the generation of various kinds of defects owing to harmful components such as metallic vapor in the event of casting personal ornaments made of metals with a precision casting plant having a hermetically sealed melting chamber and a casting chamber by charging and discharging an inert gas into and from the melting chamber continuously. CONSTITUTION:A body 29 of a precision casting machine is segmented by means of a wall 31 having a vent hole 7 to a melting chamber 1 and a casting chamber 8. An ingot 3 of noble metal which is a raw material for castings is put in a copper crucible 5 in the chamber 1, and is melted by the arc 4 between the same and an electrode 2, and is cast into the mold 9 in the chamber 8 in the lower part through the hole 7, whereby personal ornaments, objects of industrial art, artificial teeth, small industrial articles, etc. are precision-cast. In this case, the smoke-like harmful components such as vapor of the molten metal degrade the visual field in the chamber 1, contaminate the chamber walls, or enter the inside of the chamber 8 thereby sticking on the molds and causing casting defects. In order to prevent these, an inert gas such as Ar is flowed into the chamber 1 with vacuum pumps 16 and 52 to carry out the harmful components together with the inert gas to the outside, whereby various kinds of defects are prevented.
