CONSTITUTION: Acetic acid-requiring bacteria belonging to Brevibacterium genus and capable of producing L-ornithine, e.g. Brevibacterium lactofermentum AJ- 11678 (FERM-P No. 5936), are inoculated in a medium containing an aliphatic alcohol such as ethanol, propanol, etc. or a fatty acid such as acetic acid, propionic acid, palmitic acid, etc. and a glucide as a carbon source, and cultured under aerobic conditions. The objective L-ornithine is separated from the cultivation liquid.
