Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out the continuous production of the titled particles having a high bulk density and a uniform particle size distribution, by forming dough having a controlled water content from a polycarbonate solution and then allowing the dough to gel and grinding the gel.
CONSTITUTION: An organic solvent (e.g., methylene chloride) solution containing about 5W20wt% polycarbonate and steam are fed to an apparatus equipped with a kneading mechanism (e.g., tank for agitating a high-viscosity substance, having a screw feeder for discharging the dough on the bottom) wherein the solvent is volatilized and the condensed water is separated to obtain dough, water content ≤ about 10wt% (1st step). Next, this dough is transferred to an apparatus having a sufficiently powerful kneading mechanism (e.g., twin-screw extruder equipped with agitation blades), wherein the dough is continuously sheared and ground into particles, which are then discharged (2nd step).
