Abstract
PURPOSE: To lower an S content of electrolytic copper formed on a cathode as well as to reduce power unit product, in carrying out electrolytic refinery by using an acidic copper sulfate solution as an electrolyte and crude copper as an anode, by adding a water soluble aromatic azo compound in the electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: In an electrolyte containing copper sulfate and sulfuric acid or an electrolyted prepare by adding one or more of glue, casein, gelatine, thiourea, polyvinyl alcohol and sulphonated fatty acid to the former electrolyte, electrolytic refinery is carried out by using crude copper as an anode to precipitate electric copper on a cathode. In this time, in said electrolyte, a water soluble azo compound of which a part of aromatic rings is subjected to azo coupling is added in an amount of about 0.5W5ppm as a concn. in the electrolyte. Thereby, electrolytic copper having a smooth surface and containing S in an amount smaller than conventional one can be prepared in a reduced power consumption amount.
