Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform rotary motion of a fan in accordance with temperature of cooling water through a viscous fluid coupling suitable for driving the radiator cooling fan used in a vehicle, by feeding viscous fluid to a working chamber provided with a labyrinth ad controlling a viscous fluid amount in accordance with the temperatue of cooling water. CONSTITUTION:Low temperature of cooling water causes a control device 29 to close a relay contact 27 immediately after an engine 8 is started. In consequence, a solenoid 12 is excited to attract a magnetic core 22, and a communication hole 20 in a separator plate 19 is closed by a flexible strip 21. Then viscous fluid in a reservoir chamber 17 is not fed to a working chamber 18, and a viscous fluid amount between said chamber and a labyrinth 5 is decreased, then a turning effect, transmitted from a rotor 6 to an inner casing 4a, is suppressed. On the contrary, the temperature of cooling water rises to open the relay contact 27, then the communication hole 20 is opened to feed much viscous fluid to the working chamber 18. Accordingly, a turning effect, transmitted from the rotor 6 to the inner housing 4a, can be increased.
