Abstract
PURPOSE:To strengthen the metallic bonding between the core material of a composite wire rod and the sheathing material of it, by making the cross sectional area of an extruding chamber of the composite wire rod perpendicular to the direction of extruding, larger than that of a tubular path for supplying the sheathing metal, in manufacturing the composite wire rod by using a frictionally driving type extruding apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A tubular path 8 for supplying sheathing Al of a composite wire rod is formed between a groove 5 of a rotary wheel 4 and the inner wall surface 7 of a fixed shoe block 6, and the supplied Al is forced into an extruding chamber 14 by the frictional force between the Al and the path 8. Further, a core wire rod 1 of steel, copper, etc. is fed into the chamber 14 from a through-hole 9 of the block 6, and is extruded from an extruding die 12 as a composite wire rod consisting of the core wire rod 1 and the sheathing material Al. In this case, the contacting pressure between the core wire 1 and the sheathing Al is made larger by making the cross sectional area C-C' of the chamber 14 perpendicular to the direction of the core wire 1 larger than the cross sectional area A-A' of the tubular path 8 for Al supplying, and then the composite wire rod having strong bonding strength between both the metals is obtained.
