Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the adhesive strength and corrosion resistance of the paint film after cation type electrodeposition painting much higher by using aq. mixed solns. of a Zr compd., myoinositol phosphate and its salts in post-treatment washing after phosphating.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic surfaces are phosphated with an aq. acidic phosphating soln. for cation type electrodeposition painting. Thence, it is treated with an aq. soln. contg. ≥0.05g/l (as ZrO2) water-soluble Zr compd., ≥0.05g/l myoionositol phosphate (phytic acid) and or its water-soluble salts. Here, the aq. solns. of 3W 7pH obtd. at 1W50:1 molar ratios between the former and the latter are used. If the ratio of the former is below 1, the corrosion resistance is not enough, and in excess of 50, the stability of Zr in the liquid degrades. The selection of pH is also regulated by the concn. of the phytic acid, and the pH higher than that exhibited when a base of the amt. 4 times that of said acid in molar ratio is added is required. Below the 4 times amt., the stability of Zr in the liquid degrades. If the pH is below 3, phosphate films are eluted excessively and in excess of 7, there is no improvement in the corrosion resistance.
