Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the shape in the width direction of a strip with high accuracy in the stage of cold rolling of the strip by controlling the temp. distributions in the width direction of the strip and work rolls thereby adjusting the lubricating condition between the rolls and the strip. CONSTITUTION:In the final stand of tandem cold rolling mills, the temp. distributions in the width direction of a strip 1 to be rolled and rolls are measured with a strip thermometer 3 and a roll surface thermometer 2 moving and scanning in the width direction for a constant time. The shape of the strip 1 on the outlet side of the rolling mills is detected with a shape detector 8, and is inputted together with the above-mentioned temp. measured values to a coolant pressure operating and setting device 9, by which the water flow rates of a coolant injection header 4 for cooling the strip 1 and a coolant injection head 5 for cooling the roll surface and the water flow rates in the respective positions in the width direction are regulated with pressure control valves 6, 7, whereby the temp. distributions of the srip 1 and the work roll surfaces are controlled adequately and the shape in the width direction of the strip on the outlet side of the rolling mills is controlled with high accuracy.
