Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled water-soluble composition, containing S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM), an acid and a water-soluble Ca salt, and having improved storage stability, safety for a living body and producticity and economic efficiency on an industrial scale.
CONSTITUTION: S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM), an acid and a water-soluble Ca salt are mixed at a molar ratio preferably 1: (0.5W2):(2W6) to give the aimed composition. Preferably, the following components are used. (A) One or more acids, e.g. hydrochloric, acetic, lactic or p-toluenesulfonic acid, which with the third component water-soluble Ca salt will not form a water-insoluble compound in an aqueous solution and with the SAM will form and/or form a water-soluble salt are used as the acid. (B) One or more Ca salts e.g. calcium chloride, calcium acetate or calcium lactate, soluble in water at ordinary temperature in an amount of 1% (W/V) or more are used as the water-soluble Ca salt. (C) SAM is purified by the ion exchange chromatography and converted into the salt type of the acid.
USE: Chemotherapeutic agents for hypometabolic diseases.
