Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a perfectly homogeneous casting of good quality by opening the upper part of each cavity to the atmosphere, filling molten metal in the cavities, and closing the open parts just prior to completion of the filling, in a verticall type casting machine.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal M is poured into an injection sleeve 4, and is received on a plunger 5, whereby it is stored. Next, the plunger 5 is moved upward, then the molten metal M moves upward, until it contacts the suspending part of a distributor 11, further the molten metal M ascends in channels 12, arrives at runner openings 10a and flows into cavities 9 through runners 10. The air and exhaust gas in the cavities 9 are released into the atmosphere through sleeves 13. Just prior to completion of filling, respective plungers 14 are moved downward, until the plungers 14 are fitted respectively into the sleeves 13, thereby closing the same and shutting off the cavities 9 from the atmosphere. After the molten metal is filled in each cavity 9, the plungers 14 are further moved downward, whereby the molten metal in the cavities 9 is worked. Upon solidification of the molten metal, the dies are opened, and the castings are taken out.
