Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic alloy for a magnetic head that has high hardness and excellent wear resistance, by adding Ga, In and Tl to a Ni-Fe-Nb alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic alloy comprising 70W86wt% Ni, 0.5W14wt% Nb, 0.001W5wt% total amount of at least one element of Ga, In and Tl, if necessary, 0.01W15wt% total amount of at least one element of Mo, Cr, W, Ti, V, Mn, Ge, Zr, rare earth metals, Ta, Be, B, Al, Si, Hf, Sn, Sb, Co and Cu, and the remainder of iron and a small amount of impurities. The alloy has an initial permeability of 3,000 or more, the maximum permeability of 5,000 or more and Vickers hardness of 130 or more. The above-mentioned composition is heated at 600°CW its melting point in an unoxidizing atmoshere or vacuum for an appropriate time corresponding to its composition of 1minW100hr. After that, the composition is cooled from a temperature of a regular-irregular lattice transformation temperture or higher to a normal temperature at an appropriate rate corresponding to its composition of 100°C/secW1°C/hr to provide the objective magnetic alloy.
