Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve joining capacity between materials in ultrasonic welding by applying an electric current between materials to be joined, and generating heat due to resistance. CONSTITUTION:Materials 7, 8 to be joined are held between the tip 4 to which ultrasonic oscillation is given and the anvil 6 of a fixed stand. An electric current is supplied between these materials 7 and 8 to be joined from a power source 10 through an electric wire 11 to generate heat by resistance in the materials 7 and 8. Arrival at temperature suitable for welding is facilitated by rise of temperature caused by heat generated by resistance even when the amount of generation of frictional heat caused by ultrasonic oscillation is small. The place where current flows is limited between the mateials 7 and 8 to be joined, and temperature rise due to flow of current in the tip 4 and anvil 6 is eliminated. By this way, materials so far difficult to make ultrasonic welding become easy to weld.
