Abstract
PURPOSE:A glass of a lower softening point than that of the clad of the parent material is arranged outermost and the parent material is drawn with a tension of more than a specific value to give the resultant fiber a compression stress, thus producing optically fiber with high reliability, because of its freeness from static fatigue. CONSTITUTION:The core 6 with a square distribution of refraction index is composed of GeO2-SiO2 glass and the clad 7 of SiO2. The parent material is inserted into a glass pipe of low melting point and they are fused by heating from one end to prepare P2O5 dope SiO2 glass jacket 8. The resultant parent material is heated and drawn with a tension of more than 0.05% elongation, when the tension is calculated as an elongation of the optical fiber, then immediately coated with a silicone resin 9 to give the objective optical fiber. This drawing makes the mechanical strain of the fiber larger than the static load, thus causing no static fatigue.
