Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture hollow glass staple fibers by ejecting molten glass from orifices while blowing a gas into the glass and by spraying a spinning gas on the ejected glass. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle section 12 provided with orifices 13 ejecting molten glass is formed under a glass melting pot 11, and it is heated to a temp. above the m.p. of glass with electric current supplied from ears 20, 20'. A gas such as air fed from a blowing gas manifold 16 spouts from the openings of guide pipes 17 toward the orifices 13. The preferred average diameter of the openings of the pipes 17 is about 0.2-1.5mm., and the openings are about 0-3mm. away from openings 131 of the orifices 13 upward. The blown gas is linearly introduced into molten glass and enters the orifices 13, so the glass is ejected from openings 132 having about 0.4-3.0mm. diameter in the form of hollow fibers. By spraying a spinning gas on the ejected glass from nozzles 15, 15', hollow glass staple fibers are obtd.
