Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the cross-sectional shape of a weld zone accurately and surely without receiving the influence of external light by irradiating slit light of a single wavelength to the weld zone, and receiving an image of the optically cut profile through a narrow band interference filter. CONSTITUTION:Slit light 4 of a single wavelength is irradiated from a cylindrical lens 3 to the weld beads 2 of an electric welded pipe 1 and the parts around the same. Laser light is supplied from a laser light generator 5 through an optical fiber 6 to a cylindrical lens 3, and is made into slit light 4 which is irradiated to the beads 2 and the parts around the same diagonally to the pipe axis of the pipe 1 and along the circumference of the pipe. The optically cut profile 7 by the slit light 4 produced in the weld zone of the outside surfacd of the pipe 1 passes through a narrow band interference filter 8 and is received in an ITV camera 9, the image receiving signal thereof is fed to a controller 10. The image receiving signal is fed via the controller 10 to a CRT 13, where the image 7' corresponding to the profile 7, that is, the cross-sectional shape of the weld zone is obtained.
