Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the resistance of a high Cr work roll to wear, surface roughening and cracking by unitedly joining the outer layer made of high Cr cast iron to the core made of nodular graphite cast iron with high tensile strength.
CONSTITUTION: The outer layer of this work roll consists of, by weight, 2.0W 3.2% C, 0.5W1.5% Si, 0.5W1.5% Mn, ≤0.08% P, ≤0.06% S, 0.5W2.0% Ni, 10W 25% Cr, 0.5W3.0% Mo and the balance essentially Fe, and the core has ≤30kg/ cm2 tensile strength and consists of, by weight, 2.8W3.8% C, 1.8W3.0% Si, 0.2W 1.0% Mn, ≤0.01% P, ≤0.02% S, ≤2.0% Ni, ≤1.5% Cr, ≤1.0% Mo, 0.02W 0.1% Mg and the balance essentially Fe. This high Cr work roll is manufactured by metallurgicallly joining said outer layer and core together.
