Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably lower the hardness of ordinary high silicon cast iron and enhance the strength and workability by adding a respectively specified amt. of Mg, graphite and Al or Cu to hot metal of the iron.
CONSTITUTION: To hot metal of ordinary high silicon cast iron are added, by weight, Mg 0.0025W0.05%, graphite 0.05W0.5% and Al 0.05W0.1% or Cu 0.1W 0.7%. Thus, high silicon cast iron is obtd. having a bending strength of about 35W 40kg/mm2, a hardness of about 260W330Hb and superior machinability.
