Abstract

PURPOSE: To regenerate a costly catalyst effectively by bringing a palladium- contg. catalyst having lost its activity into contact with two kinds of oxygen- contg. gases of specific temps. and oxygen concns., then with gaseous hydrogen.
CONSTITUTION: The palladium catalyst having lost its activity through contact with hydrocarbon under hydrogenating conditions is brought into contact first with 400W500°C oxygen-contg. gas, and 1W4mol% oxygen concns. under atmospheric pressure then with 300W600°C oxygen-contg. gas and 0.5W50kg/cm2.a oxygen partial pressures, and further with gaseous hydrogen. Thereby, the carbonaceous materials stuck thereon are first removed thoroughly by combustion, then the initial catalyst activity is substantially restored. In this way, the costly palladium catalyst is effectively regenerated.
