Abstract
PURPOSE: To cool granulated slag adequately by providing a collecting dome so that it covers a rotary drum and a collecting pit, and arranging nozzles which scatter water in a prescribed direction.
CONSTITUTION: A molten slag ladle 1 is turned over to supply molten slag via a chute 3 to a rotary drum 4, where it is scattered. Thus, the molten slag is granulated and, at the same time, scattered into a collecting dome 16; and a portion of it falls into water in a collecting pit and the remainder is scattered to stick to the ceiling 18 and side wall 19 of the collecting dome 16. In this case, the slag is passed through a header 22 and then washed off with cooling water spouting from water scattering nozzles to fall into the water in the collecting pit, thereby cooling it. If said cooling water forms a film on the working surface of the side wall 19, the cooling water while held at adequate temperature reaches the collecting pit because air passes through several lines of slit air holes 21.
