Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable both dot printing and matrix printing with a single printer by a method wherein a dot head is arranged behind a type head and a means to retreat a type head is provided. CONSTITUTION:The dot head 13 is arranged behind the type head 12. In the matrix printing, the type head 12 is rotated and shifted by a rotating motor 26, a shift motor 28 to select types. Thereafter, the dot head 13 is excited, a wire jumps out and the type head 12 is impacted at the rear thereof for printing. Then, in the dot printing, the type head 12 is removed from the dot head 13 by the shift motor 28. Subsequently, printing is carried out by the dot head 13.
