Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical distributing circuit of low losses, a small size and easy connection of optical fibers by forming a glass layer on a substrate except its both ends in such a way that the recesses of a V-groove provided to the central part thereof and the plural V-grooves provided at both ends parts are nearly buried, increasing the refractive index of the glass layer and forming optical waveguides. CONSTITUTION:A glass layer 207 is formed on a substrate 201 of Si except its both ends in such a way that a V-groove 202 provided to the central part thereof and plural V-grooves 203-206, 203'-206' having tapers in the longitudinal direction provided at both ends are nearly buried. The refractive index thereof is increased by diffusing Tl<+> ions into the glass layer 207, whereby optical waveguides 209-212, 209'-212', 208 are formed. The light made incident from an optical fiber 213 to an inlet end 209 propagates to a mixing part 208, spreads spacially and is coupled to optical fibers 213'-216'. The same holds true of other fibers 214-216. Thereby, the optical distributing circuit of less fraction losses, a small size and easy connection of the optical fibers is obtained.
