Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent breaking of wire electrode by detecting shock waves generated at the machining portion of wire-cut spark erosion machining, and controlling the current intensity from the power source in accordance with the value detected. CONSTITUTION:Pulse voltage is imposed by the power source 11 between a wire electrodes 1 and the work 10, and cutting oil 14 is supplied to the location of machining through a cutting oil supply pipe 13, so that the intended machining is accomplished by wire-cut spark erosion technique. Attendant shock waves or ultrasonic waves generated by electric discharge of pulse voltage at the machining location are detected by an ultrasonic wave sensor 15; and if the value detected is smaller than the normal value, the current intensity from the power source 11 is reduced accordingly by means of a power source control circuit 16. Control of electric power is made by either interrupting the voltage pulse or reducing the peak current. Thus, an abnormal discharge, etc. is positively detected and wire electrode breaking accident prevented.
