Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the working efficiency of this mill by disposing a carriage for trailing end and a carriage for leading end on a coil line, tuning the speeds of the carriages to the delievery speed of coils and transversely splicing and welding the coils with a cutter and a transverse splicing and welding device provided on the carriages.
CONSTITUTION: A carriage 4 for leading end is made movable at a speed higher than that of the delivery speed of steel strips 6, 6' and scrap tables 8, 9 of a carriage 3 for trailing end are run and moved synchronously with the carriage 3 and are made retreatable laterally in a prescribed position 2'. The leading strip 6 is cut of its trailing end under delivery of the strips and after the leading end of the succeeding strip 6' is cut in a stopped state, it is run and moved at the speed higher than the delivery speed of the strips to catch up the strip 6, whereby both ends are butted and are transversely spliced and welded with a welding device 7.
