1464913 Dividing sheets by sawing F MEYER & SCHWABEDISSEN 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8063/74 Heading B5L Apparatus Fig. 1 for dividing a sheet or a stack of sheets comprises a dividing station 5 adapted to receive a sheet or stack fed thereto in a supply direction, a saw portal 6 having at least one cross-cut saw 9 and at least one longitudinal saw 10 and movable to and fro in the supply direction above the station 5, and a displaceable shifting portal 7, upstream of the saw portal and having carriers 11 guidable into the supply path of the sheet or stack. As described the apparatus also includes a roller table 1 an elevating platform 2, a feed device 3, a second table 4 and a removal roller table 8. The dividing station includes alignment stops 13, an alignment beam 14 movable towards and away from the stops 13, a vertically movable table 15 which when raised supports a sheet or stack for cutting, frictionally driven rollers 16 which when the table 15 is lowered engage the sheet or stack to feed it in a selected direction, and clamps 18. In operation of the apparatus to produce the cutting pattern of Fig. 2, a sheet is fed from table 4 to station 5 and held by clamps 18. The portal 6 is then advanced to a selected position and cut a made by saw 9. The piece 19 so produced is fed by rollers 16 to a waiting position and cuts b are produced in the rest of the sheet by saws 10 as the portal 6 advances. Clamps 18 are then released, the beam 14 is advanced to press together the sides of the cuts b, and the portal 6 is located at the downstream side of the sheet. Carriers 11 of portal 7 are engaged with the rear end of strip 20 and the portal advances the strip intermittently between the effecting of the cuts c to f by the saw 9. When strip 20 has been cut, and fed to table 8 the portal 7 returns, the beam 14 is further advanced, and the carriers 11 are then used to advance the rest of the sheet as cuts g, h, i are made. The cut pieces pass to table 8 as the piece 19 is fed to clamps 18 and is held thereby while cuts k to m are made by saws 10. Different cutting patterns are disclosed.
