Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain compact simple device having excellent response characteristics to acidic gas by using an element wherein electrodes are connected to both ends of a thin film of lanthanide phthalocyanine complex, and detecting the variation in electric resistance due to the contact with the gas. CONSTITUTION:The electrodes 2 and 2 are formed by a conductor of gold and the like on an insulating substrate 1 of glass and the like. Thereafter, the complex film 3 of lanthanide phthalocyanine whose main metal is lanthanum series metal is formed and the detecting element is obtained. The film 3 is formed by dropping CHCl3 solution of said complex on the substrate 1 and drying it, or by vacuum evaporation of the complex and the like. Then, the film is contacted with solution of hydrochloric acid for a specified time and dried, and the acidic gas detecting element 4 is obtained. The element 4 is connected to an auxiliary resistor 5 in series and connected to a power source 6 which supplies a DC or AC voltage. Both ends of the element 4 or the resistor 5 are connected to a voltmeter 7, and the output information from the voltmeter 7 is connected to a warning generator or an auxiliary device 9 which can perform recording and processing.
