Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a fraction such as ethylene from being lost by entrainment in a light fraction and to increase the yield of ethylene, etc. by using a condensate obtd. in a separation and refining step for hydrogen and methane as a reflux for a cracked hydrocarbon fractionation step.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of hydrogen-methane gas separated by final fractionating column T-2 in feed treatment zone 1 is supplied via line 16A to hydrogen- methane separation and refining step 2, where it is cooled to a low temp. by primary coder E-5, and methane condensed is separated from a gas by primary separation drum D-5 and then supplied as a reflux to the fractionating column T-2 in the feed treatment zone 1 by pump 26. An amt. of ethylene fraction extrained in the refined hydrogen and methane gas separated and discharged from the hydrogen-methane separation and refining step 2 is reduced, the yield of ethylene is increased, and reduction of operation cost and energy saving are accomplished by supplying as a reflux a portion of the liquefied methane from the final separation and refining step 2 in the feed treatment zone 1 to the fractionating column T-2.
